I don't know if I stand by my description of the problem. Although a
menu item which can fail is bad, it could not be a bug. It has to fail
clearly though. Avoid exclamation marks, and indicate clearly that there
was an error. "Press return to continue..." is misleading, suggesting
something will happen after pressing return.
You could also look at synaptic if you wish to prevent this error via
dependencies, as I wrote.
Clearly, Debian has no good way to deal with this issue.
