Hi! I just implemented the "compile with gcc-4.3" solution and indeed it seems to work. Package is still being build, but at least it already reached 50% of the build and didn't bailed out at 11%, so guess the changes are okay. They should probalby be revoked, once the real problem is resolved, hence cloning the bug and setting non-rc severity on the new bug.
