After reboot and trying the same thing again in rescue mode, the same error occured.
I finally went to a tty, installed new partition tables using fdisk ('o' option) on both disks and rebooted again and still got the same error. I guess now that the cause is not only related to sw raid but this is because perhaps it expects certain packages to be installed/downloaded from previous steps before I chose the "Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk" step. (I skipped previous steps because I'm installing a server (Dell Poweredge 210) with a network card that requires non-free firmware). Indeed, rebooting and loading the firmware during the rescue mode now resolves this. What remains are three things: 1) Why is the rescue mode trying to retrieve something from md0 when it has just setup a system on /dev/sda? (see syslog) 2) I would have liked to get a clearer error message saying: "Can't continue with this step because necessary packages have not been retrieved over the network" or something along that line. 3) Also it would be nice to have an option of installing GRUB to the MBR without needing to go through the previous steps. Priority can be lowered for 2 and 3. The first point still seems like a real bug to me. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
