Yes.  Get in touch with maintainers of those packages that may be
affected and work out a fix or forward the problem upstream (looks like
changes attributed to Ubuntu's Martin Pitt introduced the problem).  My
particular problems are with the scanning function, but I can imagine
that faxes may be affected as well.

Right now, scanning from multifunction devices breaks when upgrading
from udev version 157-1 to 158-1.  Up until 157-1, scanning has worked
fine for such devices for years as long as you were a member of the
scanner group.  I should add that printing has also worked just fine
throughout that period.
