If we're going to allow any symlinks, these are the ones that are most advantagous to allow, because otherwise we're duplicating documentation and copyrights in all of our architectures instead of just having them present once. I think there's some confusion here; debian/control documents changes to the source package, and as such, should always have the source version listed.
