Are you sure you're running version 1.4.5-1 here and not 1.2.x?

% schroot -V | head -n1
schroot (Debian sbuild) 1.4.6 (28 Jun 2010)
% schroot -r -c sid-i386
E: sid-i386: Chroot not found
% schroot -e -c sid-i386
E: sid-i386: Chroot not found

I'm running 1.4.6, but this is just 1.4.5 plus some unrelated
changes. This aspect of schroot's functionality hasn't changed
TTBOMK.
