The error message is unclear to say what actions sould the administrator
do. Suggestion, please add information how to proceed.
In this case, the actions needed were:
apt-get --purge remove libdevmapper*
apt-get install grub-pc
... reconfigure grub
dpkg-reconfigure --priority=low sysv-rc
