sane-find-scanner relies on a number of heuristics to detect and report
devices attached to the host system that can possibly be scanners.

As there is no definitive method to identify a scanner, heuristics need
to be added to detect new scanners that do not fall into the exisiting
heuristics.

Since you have access to the actual hardware, you're in a position to
develop, test and propose new heuristics for this particular
hardware. If you can come up with a patch, please send it to
sane-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org.

Note that in your particular case, this hardware is supported by hplip,
which is totally independent from SANE and comes with its own detection
tool.
