Guido, I suspect that this bug is a duplicate of bug number 505609. The bottom line is that due to a bug in the kernel maintainer scripts, lilo does not get re-run after a kernel upgrade. Re-try your original scenario after manually running lilo. If necessary, add the large-memory option to /etc/lilo.conf or use
MODULES=dep in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/driver-policy. But chances are that manually running lilo is all you need to do. -- .''`.
