This post is very old, not sure it still matters old, but it's good you
found a workaround :)~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf

Did you try other values for agpmode ? You can try 1, 2, 4 and 8. If one
helps, upstream may add a quirk for your machine.
