This package needed some adaptation to build fine with python 2.6.Here is the patch that we applied in Ubuntu to fix the FTBFS with python2.6.
Of course, we would prefer a patch that does not hardcode any Python version, but use the version that happens to be the default at build time. That way the package could be fixed *before* python-defaults is uploaded to unstable, and then only binNMUed afterwards.
