As far as I understand the referred document, I am currently using strategy #3, which is not the most recommended, but so far I have not seen it failing. Please advise on what would strategy #1 (patch *.in, *.am) entail - if possible, including a patch for it. FWIW, Cherokee is maintained on a Git tree under collab-maint, in case you want to make the changes directly.
