Subject: update-grub: No entry for device-mapper found Package: grub-pc Version: 1.98+20100527-2 Severity: normal Tags: sid
*** Please type your report below this line *** When installing a new kernel with 1.98+20100527-2 update-grub complains about missing device-mapper: Running update-grub. /proc/devices: No entry for device-mapper found ... /proc/devices: No entry for device-mapper found Generating grub.cfg ... /proc/devices: No entry for device-mapper found ... /proc/devices: No entry for device-mapper found Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-686 /proc/devices: No entry for device-mapper found ... /proc/devices: No entry for device-mapper found done The device-mapper seems to be related to RAID and I don't have any RAID configuration for this box. However, libdevmapper1.02.1 is installed but no LVM is used either. Should there be a device-mapper entry in /proc/devices even if no LVM is used? The printouts are annoying! -- Package-specific info: *********************** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/disk/by-uuid/aec662ba-91d0-4201-9bd1-a2e9028cbd41 / ext3 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda5 /var ext3 rw,relatime,errors=continue,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda6 /usr ext3 rw,relatime,errors=continue,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda7 /mnt/hda7 ext3 rw,relatime,errors=continue,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /home ext4 rw,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0 *********************** END /proc/mounts *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/hda (hd1) /dev/sda (hd2) /dev/sdb *********************** END /boot/grub/device.map *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ];
