Well, it seems that the gsfonts maintainer (Kenshi Muto) disagrees: see
bug #583964 where he explains [1] that the problem should really be
fixed in the grace package.
I am consequently reassigning this bug report back to grace and setting
its severity back to the original value.

Also, please do not merge two bug reports submitted by the same person.
I filed two separate bug reports for a reason: one is the actual bug to
be fixed (and it seems that it should be fixed in grace), the other is
meant to warn users to not upgrade gsfonts until this issue is solved,
unless they can live with a broken grace...

Now, please fix the bug in grace: Kenshi Muto said that he'll try to
help (see again [1]), so it should be feasible to find a way to adapt
grace to the new defoma-less environment which is being prepared for
squeeze...
