I tried to monitor iceape using a system trace, but the whole X11 system comes crashing down, before I can obtain satisfactory results. I notice that the browser is making squillions and squillions of calls to "poll" and "gettimeofday", even when sitting idle. I wonder if there is some way of profiling the application, so that we can see the where the browser is spending its time, and how the resources are being hogged.
