    Error message appears in '.xsession-errors':

        ** (update-notifier:4382): DEBUG: error during dbus call: The name
org.debian.apt was not provided by any .service files

This is issued by 'reboot.c' in package 'update-notifier-common':

    proxy = dbus_g_proxy_new_for_name (connection,
        "org.debian.apt",
        "/org/debian/apt",
        "org.debian.apt");
    error = NULL;
    if (!dbus_g_proxy_call (proxy, "GetActiveTransactions", &error,
            G_TYPE_INVALID,
            G_TYPE_STRING, &current,
            G_TYPE_STRV, &pending,
            G_TYPE_INVALID)) {
        g_debug ("error during dbus call: %s\n", error->message);

I have wondered about the 'apt' DBUS call(s) in update-notifier for a long
time.  What exactly
is their purpose? Which process(es) are listening to that bus? Is it just
there for
possible future use or coordination with apt?
