I agree with Fredrik Steen that this is a network problem on your or the server end. To mitigate the duplicates you see you should set the max_messages_per_session variable in your getmail configuration. Even with this you will get duplicate messages (despite it will be fewer). But that is what you want than loosing them. (It looks like Fredrik forgot to send mail to original bug reporter.
