Package: smartmontools Version: 5.33+5.34cvs20050802-2 Severity: important Hello,
I have a 3ware RAID device on my system with two hard drives in the device. Before upgrading to the latest version of the package, I was able to monitor the device just fine and it would give me the occasional entry in my syslog. Now when starting it, it fails and generates these messages in the syslog: Starting S.M.A.R.T. daemon: smartd (failed) Aug 9 20:22:06 orca1 smartd[22098]: smartd version 5.34 [i686-pc-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-5 Bruce Allen Aug 9 20:22:06 orca1 smartd[22098]: Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ Aug 9 20:22:06 orca1 smartd[22098]: Opened configuration file /etc/smartd.conf Aug 9 20:22:06 orca1 smartd[22098]: Configuration file /etc/smartd.conf parsed. I have these lines in my /etc/smartd.conf file: $ grep -v ^# /etc/smartd.conf | uniq /dev/sda -m root -M test -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner -d 3ware,0 -a -S on -o on /dev/sda -m root -M test -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner -d 3ware,1 -a -S on -o on BTW, it's also generating those annoying SG_IO warnings. If I add -T permissive, then these warnings appear in my syslog: Aug 9 11:20:06 orca1 smartd[19390]: Device: /dev/sda [3ware_disk_00], Failed SMART usage Attribute: 176 Unknown_Attribute.
