The splash was (and now is too after upstream switched to bmp) a 24-bit bmp. And that's not changeable in the squeeze timeframe. (oosplash can only handle 24bit bmps) But you can try whether the new splash in 3.2.1 (though also being 24bit) bas been converted better so that it doesn't appear anymore (hope doesn't stop... In any case, if still persisting - and as the bug correctly is classified as "minor" - this probably will remain for some time (unless you switch to 24bits on your resolution).
