Many thanks, Kingsley, for taking the time to send this bug report together with a solution proposal! Do you maybe have some further information detailing your "sometimes"? (You wrote, that bibus "sometimes" hangs while trying to finalize.) Did you notice anything specific which could trigger this behaviour?
I asked upstream for a comment on the solution. If he doesn't see any problem with it, I will try to release a new debian revision of bibus with the fix (if he doesn't want to release a fixed bibus version right away).
