thanks for the bug report. As this is an upstream issue, I'd like to ask you to
file this bug directly upstream at
http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?func=additem&group=avrdude

The upstream author is usually very responsive and you have much better chances
there to get this bug fixed.
If you have filed the bug upstream, please tell me the bug number so I can track
it in the Debian bug tracker.
