I understand the problems you are facing. The current package is set out in a way that should be more flexible to changes in the future. Otherwise, I don't really have a good answer for you. I'm not sure what you try to achieve by setting to RC. That would only delay unstable->testing migration which is currently not pending. It won't do anything for the current stable release. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. You could of course ask the people doing the backports and I think that's the most appropriate route. But I have no influence on that. pastebinit is not a package suitable for volatile. At least that's my understanding. I don't see a good solution for people running stable except to just install the testing packages. They should work fine.
