I'm really really sorry! This one is my mistake! I somehow mistook sid for squeeze the whole time... Well, the short version: This package broke in squeeze (the testing branch). Of course the one in unstable is fixed for sure, but it'll take a while until it makes it into testing, right? For now, the broken version is in the testing branch and breaking my machines.
I managed to reproduce the bug on a clean install, by the way: Steps to reproduce: 1. Use an empty VMX in VMPlayer 2. Install Debian squeeze on it (netinst) with default options (skipped the desktop environment, only system utilities installed beyond the base system) 3. First command on login: apt-get install open-vm-tools 4. Broken install received kernel: 2.6.32-3-686 #1 SMP open-vm-tools version: 2010.03.20-243334-4 /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free contrib deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free contrib Sorry again for my mistake...
