I am unable to reproduce this on my workstation. When proceeding as
you described above, icedove is launched minimized to the system tray.
I also tried this with other applications, and got the same results.

Also, when trying to launch any application via the "Startup
Applications" list, they are launched minimized to the system tray as
well when I login.

I just need some more information before forwarding this upstream.

What is the desktop environment and window manager are you using
(gnome, KDE || metacity, compiz, kwm)?

When launching icedove (or any application) with alltray through a
terminal, is it started minimized to the systray?
