The launchpad bug you linked points to a GNOME bugzilla entry: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=544187 so it might be worth trying to rebuild lenny evolution with patch from r36276. If you can do that and confirm it fixes the problem, it'd be nice. If you can't, I'll try to prepare some packages and provide them to you so you can test, but it'll take some time. Then, if it fixes the problem, it might become part of a lenny point release.
