I spent a few hours (!) trying to get this to work this evening but I can't
get the gtk.Image to propagate the "move widget" signals. Using a gtk.Button
or gtk.Label makes it work fine, so I am a little confused.
One solution I was just investigating would be to have a simple GTK widget
that simply rendered the icon for us. However, you can still move the widget
by right-clicking and choosing "Move" so this is perhaps not worth it.
I take a little comfort from looking at a number of other third-party
applets and seeing that they also fail in this regard. Hopefully in time a
solution will present itself but this is too low-priority for me at the
moment.
