People usually uses this frontend because there are not aware of the fact that there exists better frontend. Some resources about this: http://lwn.net/Articles/374627/ http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Python Depending on the license of the software, people should prefer either psycopg (GPL) or pygresql (BSD). Both of them are packaged in Debian. Maybe python-pgsql should be removed from the archive. However, it is not buggy. I have used without a problem in several projects.
