It works for me on my systems, perhaps Debian needs to do something to
fix the usbfs configuration :)

And no, you can't point it at /sys/bus/usb/devices/ that is a directory,
not a file.  You should point it at /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices
instead for some more modern systems that don't mount usbfs.
