Debian packages have openmp (parallel computation enabled, i.e. flags -fopenmp -DUSE_OPENMP) and I just tested, it crashes with openmp enabled and w/o it it is working nicely. Could you please file an upstream bug telling them that this does not work - such that they have a look? If there is no timely response I am afraid we also have to disable openmp support in the debian packages.
