First of all, thank you very much for your work with atlas packages ! It seems that the alternative mechanism fails when old libblas3gf(1.2-4) and liblapack3gf(3.2.1-2) are installed (e.g. /usr/lib/liblapack.so.3gf still points to liblapack.so.3gf.0 in /usr/lib despite libatlas3gf-*(3.8.3.19) is installed). I would hence suggest that conflicts (or some equivalent procedure) with these old versions of libblas and liblapack be added in order to make the transition easier.
