I guess you never used it? It is not for backup, it is for configuration management. It is invaluable when debugging a configuration problem, allowing the configuration changes to be traced with hour resolution and with details about which files was changed. It is also very useful when there are several people modifying the configuration, making it possible to figure out what the other people did. It is very practical when doing local changes, making it trivial and efficient to see all the changes done to verify that all the changes make sense.
