Instead of inserting :
(pretty-control-l-mode 1) ; Turn on pretty display of `^L'.
in ~/.emacs, how about turning it on via the custom interface?
Setting a variable would invoke `(pretty-control-l-mode 1)' for the user
at startup. Interested in a patch?
