Package: lirc Severity: important daemon dies silently when syslog isn't present. it's very confusing as I had to use strace to figure out:
connect(5, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/dev/log"...}, 110) = -1
ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused)
package should ensure there's a working syslog, or at least print a
useful error when there isn't.
