Although the connexion way (local vs remote), it is the same X server, and thus the same capabilities. In the second case it's going through the ssh tunnel but that's still showing up on the same X server. Just to be more convincing $ ooimpress crash $ ssh ot...@localhost other$ export DISPLAY=:0 other$ xauth add localhost/unix:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 foofoofoofoo other$ ooimpress doesn't crash The way to connect to the server is now exactly the same, and thus shared memory and such are just the same.
