IIUC This is not true.  It works very reliably with earlier versions of
the driver.  The bug only shows up in connection with the new
power-saving scheme they implemented which IIUC changes the power-saving
state more dynamically.

1- that doesn't help when you do use the wifi.
2- in my experience it still uses up a lot more power than with the wifi
   enabled but in power-saving mode (yes, it makes no sense, but on my
   Thinkpad T60 at least, that's what I see very clearly).
