Just wanted to mention that, while gitolite before v1.3 would have been hard to package due to its somewhat unusual installation method, since v1.3 it has also had a very simple way to package it for a distro. It's all documented in doc/0-INSTALL.mkd, in the last section. Feel free to let me know if you encounter any issues or need help. The number of people I have seen at various times asking for a deb pkg on #git is high enough that I am seriously interested in this happening, and really want to help.
