Unfortunately Debian development process is complicated, and I do not have much time to revisit it. All that low-level makefile stuff is rather outdated and is very far from usual Python packaging troubles. In fact I primarily Windows user, and work on Debian only through SSH - that makes things worse. -- anatoly t.
