I can see that this might add some benefits. However, that script does
not really have any active "maintainer" at the moment and, since it's
only provided as an example in contrib/, it has a *really* low priority
for upstream (which kinda includes myself). I would have removed the
script altogether a while back but didn't do so, since some other bug-
reporter stood up to make it useful with current versions of collectd.

To cut a long story short: would you be willing to provide a patch for
that? If not, I'd be forwarding the issue upstream, but I would not
expect much feedback. Patches are always very welcome (upstream),
though.
