So I would like to change the status of my report to "wishlist": the option "always visible" should not be active when there is no frame (looks like it affects only the frame, not the background; perhaps it's a pity). By the way, on the document http://fleksem.klf.uw.edu.pl/~jsbien/tmp/SpXVI_tom_33_p13abt.djvu djview3 gives the warning Border width must be between 3 and 32 for SHADOW border type. but djview4 doesn't complain.
