I don't know that controller, but it appears to have support at least in the sources of 2.6 kernels. You could try booting the installer using 'linux26' rather than just hitting enter. That might help. In addition, are you using the "raid" feature of the card? I am fairly sure linux does not support the fake raid of the card, so if you are using that you should try turning the feature off.
