I've never used dpatch before, but here goes. I applied the patch with:
sudo dpatch-edit-patch dual_devices.dpatch debian/patches/dual_devices.dpatch from the source root, then built the package with: sudo dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot then installed the package. In any case it didn't work. I mean I'm sure it did what it had to do RE: EV_SYN etc. Pretty exasperating! maybe the problem is with something which mouseemu needs to run? Other than that, I'm about to start my study year in earnest and am prepared to re-install squeeze if you reckon it'd be best.
