Well ... Unless I have tweaked things here, I believe duplicity now
creates such a dir by default :

man duplicity says :

  When backing up or restoring, this option specifies that the local
  archive directory is to be created in path.  If the archive direc‐
  tory is not specified, the default will be to create the archive
  directory in ~/.cache/duplicity/.

So I tend to believe I raised a valid case here... 

(duplicity 0.6.06-3 installed here : Debian testing)

I think #535993 raises another point : it should be permitted to
configure the way this cache is stored in the backupninja config file,
if the default archive dir location doesn't fit.

Somehow, in order to anticipate for the upcoming unstable to testing
transition. But I'm quite sure there's nothing special with respect to
this archive dir use by duplicity.

Will double check by issueing a backupninja backup trying to add some
verbosity.
