Hi, I too had a problem with the new xserver under debian testing.
Down grading xserver to testing was problematic until I found this howto http://jaqque.sbih.org/kplug/apt-pinning.html then apt-get -t stable xserver worked fine.... my laptop, finally, is back to its old self Michael
