Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.15.5.6 Severity: wishlist As discussed in a debian-policy bug (#571776), people who are already maintaining symbols files are providing more information than the shlibs file provides. Maintaining two files, one of which is a subset of the other, is a possible source of bugs. Could dpkg-gensymbols gain a way of generating the shlibs file from the symbols file? Then, the helper tools such as debhelper could just use that to generate shlibs if a symbols file is present.
