My apologies, it does not have to do with the path prefixing the command name, it seems the problem was that the help output does not begin with a description line and just starts with Usage. I must have gotten things muddled somehow.
I did try to send a correction as soon as I realised my error, but it does not appear to have turned up, perhaps because I sent it from my usual address (mail@) which debian systems do not always accept.
