Hello, I am facing the same problem when trying to install nvidia-glx: apt's solution is to remove xorg* packages.
As Eric said, nvidia-glx conflicts with xserver-xorg-core as the first one provides xserver-xorg-video-2 and the second conflicts with it. My version of xserver-xorg-core is 2:1.6.5-1. Here is the output of `dpkg -i` when I try to install nvidia-glx: -------------------8<-------------------------8<------------------- tostrad:~/tmp$ wget -q http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/pool/non-free/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers/nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_amd64.deb && sudo dpkg -i nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_amd64.deb dpkg: regarding nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_amd64.deb containing nvidia-glx: xserver-xorg-core conflicts with xserver-xorg-video-2 nvidia-glx provides xserver-xorg-video-2 and is to be installed. dpkg: error processing nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_amd64.deb (--install): conflicting packages - not installing nvidia-glx Errors were encountered while processing: nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_amd64.deb -------------------8<-------------------------8<------------------- I have attached an apt-get simulation of the installation.
