A recent update of another package, not linux-image-2.6.32-2-vserver-amd64, appears to have resolved this issue.
The problem appears to have been the mode switching of the console. The scenario is: 1) boot with the initrd, 2) decrypt the root partition, 3) mount the root partition, 4) switch console mode (previously screen went blank, now font is smaller) 5) prompt for decrypting of remaining logical volumes. (previously invisible) I think we can close the bug except you might want to consider delaying the console mode switching to after all the volumes are mounted.
