Heureka, the new upgrade helped and it is now working. Before that I tried to switch to 640x480 -- still the same. Back light was on (I think it was off last time), but still black screen. The new upgrade doesn't require DKMS, so it was automatically unistalled. Maybe this was the reason. I'm not familiar with it.
