Sorry, I can not reproduce this on a Debian system. I have seen similar problem at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/imagej/+bug/471127 Is there any reason that you report this problem to Debian when working with Ubuntu? It might be that the wrapper script might need some adaptations and I'd be happy to include these into the Debian script if it works here.
