I've discovered that it is not possible to 'modprobe -r genrtc' after the system is up and replace it with the regular rtc module. All in all there seems to be no reason for the initrd to load rtc modules. The best option would be to leave this to the regular boot process after the pivotroot; that way the user has a chance to influence what's loaded. Note: I've found that initrd-tools in Sarge has the same problem in combination with the 2.6.8 kernel.
